H.M.S. Gambia
Some misleading information is being placed on the Blog, so just to put the record straight, H.M.S. Gambia did not go down in 1943, so someone who's godfather was lost in 1943, must have been on another rather unfortunate ship. H.M.S. Gambia led a quiet life from 1943 in the Pacific and ended WW2 in the capable hands of a mixed crew of British and New Zealand Nationals. H.M.S. Gambia paid off in 1960, and was eventually scrapped in 1968, much to the chagrin of those who served on her. See www.hmsgambia.com for a full article on this ship.
